Discernment Counseling in Greenville, SC
Clarity and confidence about your marriage, before you decide anything else
Available via telehealth throughout South Carolina.
You’re Unsure if Your Marriage Can Be Saved.
If you or your spouse are considering divorce but aren't completely sure that's the right path, you're in a tough spot. Discernment counseling was created for exactly this situation: a short-term process that helps you slow down and look clearly at your options before deciding anything permanent. It's designed for couples where one spouse is leaning out of the marriage and doubts regular counseling would help, while the other is leaning in and still hoping to rebuild.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Wondering whether your marriage is even worth saving
Stuck between wanting to try and wanting out
Doubting that regular marriage counseling would help at this point
Worn out from circling the same argument again and again
Wanting a clear answer instead of more uncertainty
How Discernment Counseling Helps You Find Clarity
Not Your Typical Counseling Process
Discernment counseling isn't marriage counseling, and it isn't mediation for divorce. It's a focused process that helps you and your spouse decide, together, whether to work on restoring your marriage to health, move toward divorce, or take a time-out and decide later. The goal isn't to fix every problem in your marriage. It's to find out whether your problems are solvable in the first place.
You'll come in together, but the most important work happens one-to-one, since you're each starting from a different place.
Each of you is treated with compassion and respect, no matter how you feel about the marriage right now. There are no bad guys and good guys.
What Clarity Can Look Like for You
01. You'll Both Be on the Same Path.
Right now, you and your spouse may be pulling in two different directions. Discernment counseling helps you get aligned on a real next step, whether that's rebuilding, divorcing, or pausing, so you're finally moving in the same direction instead of against each other.
02. A More Peaceful Process, No Matter How You Move Forward.
Whether you end up rebuilding your marriage or moving toward divorce, you'll get there with less hostility. Discernment counseling replaces blame and defensiveness with a structured, respectful process that keeps things calmer for both of you, and for any kids involved
03. A Greater Understanding of How You Got Here.
Through a combination of individual and joint sessions, you'll each get a clearer picture of how you’re relationship got here. That's often the missing piece in every conversation you've already had on your own.
04. Less Conflict and Emotional Damage.
Discernment counseling is built to lower the temperature, not raise it. Most couples leave feeling calmer and less reactive with each other, regardless of which direction they choose, which matters for your future and for your family
