Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. I provide secure online therapy for adults throughout South Carolina.
Many couples are initially unsure whether online therapy will feel as effective as meeting in person. In practice, most adjust quickly and appreciate the convenience of attending sessions from home without commuting across Greenville. As long as you have a private space and a reliable internet connection, online couples therapy is every bit as interactive and engaging.

Getting started is simple. Schedule a free 15 minute consultation online, and you can tell me more about what sort of support you’re needing. I’ll answer any questions you may have, and if this is a good fit we’ll take it from there!

While I do provide individual counseling, I'm primarily a couples therapist. Most sessions include both partners because the relationship—not either individual—is the focus of treatment. During the assessment, I will meet with each partner for a one-on-one appointment to get your individual perspective on the relationship, and gather additional personal history. Over the course of couples therapy, I occasionally recommend some individual sessions as part of the treatment process, but ongoing therapy is designed to help you work together.
-
No. I work with married couples, engaged couples, and committed partners of all backgrounds.
Whether you’ve been together for six months or thirty years, the same evidence-based principles can help you communicate more effectively and strengthen your relationship.
-
Yes.
I welcome couples of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Every relationship deserves thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to its unique strengths and challenges.
-
We begin with a structured assessment rather than jumping straight into problem-solving.
That typically includes an initial joint session, a research-based relationship survey, and an individual meeting with each partner. I then provide detailed feedback about your relationship’s strengths, the patterns keeping you stuck, and a treatment plan tailored to your goals.
-
Most couples begin by meeting weekly. As communication improves and new skills become more consistent, sessions often become less frequent. Every treatment plan is individualized based on your needs and goals.
-
I am a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. My superbills do not include a diagnosis or CPT code, unless couples therapy has been recommended in writing by a physician.
-
That’s very common.
One partner is often more motivated than the other at first. Rather than asking your partner to commit to months of therapy, I usually recommend committing only to the assessment process. After completing the assessment, you’ll both have a much clearer understanding of what’s happening in your relationship and what therapy would involve.
-
That depends on your goals and the issues you’re addressing.
Some couples come for a focused communication tune-up over several months, while others work together longer to rebuild trust after an affair or address longstanding relationship patterns. During the assessment, I’ll recommend a treatment plan based on your specific situation.
-
Yes.
Therapy is confidential except in the limited situations required by law, such as concerns involving safety or abuse. At the beginning of treatment, I’ll review confidentiality and answer any questions you have about how it applies to couples therapy. Please note that for the purposes of this work, you and your partner are one client. This means that HIPAA does not protect your private health information from one another.

The best way to find out is to schedule a free consultation.
We’ll briefly discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, I’ll answer your questions, and you can decide whether my approach feels like the right fit. There’s no obligation to move forward.

Couples therapy requires a different set of skills than individual therapy. Sessions move quickly, conflict unfolds in real time, and it’s easy for therapy to become a debate about who’s right if the therapist doesn’t have a structured approach.
Couples work is the primary focus of my practice. I’ve completed advanced training in the Gottman Method, including Level 3 and Treating Affairs and Trauma, and have spent more than 25 years helping couples change the patterns that keep them stuck.
