Premarital Counseling in Greenville, SC
A strong marriage never happens by accident. Build it with intention.
Available via telehealth throughout South Carolina.
Nothing is wrong. That's the point.
Planning a wedding takes months of careful preparation. Preparing for the marriage itself often gets much less attention.
Many of the conversations that shape a successful marriage don’t arise naturally during an engagement. Differences about money, family, parenting, intimacy, careers, and conflict often stay beneath the surface until life becomes more demanding. Premarital counseling brings those conversations forward before they’re taking place in the middle of a disagreement.
Premarital counseling gives you a structured way to have those conversations before they become recurring arguments. Rather than waiting for problems to appear, you'll learn practical skills for communicating, resolving conflict, and making decisions together from the very beginning.
How Premarital Counseling Can Help
What we’ll do in Premarital Counseling
The Gottman Relationship Checkup
Our work begins with the Gottman Relationship Checkup, a comprehensive research-based assessment completed individually online. The assessment evaluates friendship, trust, conflict management, intimacy, emotional connection, and shared meaning.
Rather than following a generic curriculum, we'll use your results to identify your relationship's strengths and the conversations that will be most valuable before marriage. Your sessions are built around your relationship, not a one-size-fits-all program.
Then What?
Most couples complete premarital counseling in four to eight online sessions following the Gottman Relationship Checkup.
By the end of the process, you'll have:
A clear understanding of your relationship's strengths.
Practical communication and conflict-management skills.
Thoughtful decisions about topics couples often postpone until after the wedding.
Greater confidence entering marriage with realistic expectations and proven tools.
What Premarital Counseling Covers:
01. Communication and conflict.
Learn how each of you responds under stress, how conflict escalates, and how to repair conversations before they become damaging.
02. Money and financial decisions.
Explore your beliefs about spending, saving, debt, financial priorities, and how you'll make important financial decisions together.
03. Family and boundaries.
Discuss expectations around extended family, holidays, traditions, privacy, and how you'll work together as a team.
04. Friendship and intimacy.
Strengthen the emotional foundation of your relationship by learning how to stay connected as life changes over time.
04. Children and parenting.
Talk through whether you want children, parenting philosophies, division of responsibilities, and how you'll navigate disagreements.
04. Shared goals and values.
Clarify the life you're building together, including career decisions, personal priorities, and the kind of marriage you want to create.
Do We Need This if We Already Have a Great Relationship?
You might not need it because you’re struggling right now. But would you like to avoid struggling later?
Couples who already communicate well often gain the most from premarital counseling because they're building skills before resentment and entrenched conflict develop. You're preparing for challenges that nearly every long-term relationship eventually encounters, while they're still easy to discuss.
You can build the marriage you’ve always wanted.
I’ll can help you get there.
